Online dating safety tips

online dating safety tipsOnline dating has become a worldwide phenomenon and is a great way to meet new people. Gone are the days of blind dates - now you can communicate over the internet and get to know someone and what they look by like (instant messaging/video chat and swapping photos) before you decide to meet them. When the day comes, and you decide that this person could be "the one" and meeting them is the next step the following tips are aimed at helping you stay safe and allow you to enjoy your date.

The first thing I would suggest is meeting in a public place. If possible suggest going out with another couple on a double date with someone you trust. This way you'll be able to relax knowing you’re in safe company.

Secondly - make sure someone knows where you are. If (and god forbid it does) the worst happens then someone knows where to look for you. Get a friend to call you at a pre-determined time to check how you are.

Next tip is making sure you don't get drunk. Lots of people like to meet in bars, which is fine, but alcohol can impair your judgement. So moderation is the best policy.

Pay half of the bill, this will mean you can leave at any point you deem necessary without feeling under any obligation.

Arrange your own transport. This prevents having to depend on your date for a lift home.

Don't give away too much personal information too soon - Be aware that the first time you meet the person it will be effectively a first date so don't divulge every detail about yourself straight away. Take your time to get to know them a little better first and trust your instincts.

If it doesn't work, tell them. A second date could end up awkward. So if after your first date you find they're not the right person for you, send them an email thanking them for meeting up but you don't want a second date. Be polite but to the point, it'll be better in the long run.

Here at Springbok Singles we want you to find your perfect date and have a great time. Following the above tips will go some way to ensuring this so be careful, stay safe and enjoy yourself
